2023 Graduate – Liam Cody

My name is Liam Cody and I have been studying at EKS for 8 years. I started taking classical piano lessons with Ms. Kuan and then transitioned to classical guitar with Mr. Beggs. Every year I prepared for an array of recitals, concerts, and even the RCM exams. As time progressed, the repertoire became more challenging which required higher levels of practicing. Although there were many frustrating moments and even times where I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to perfect a certain piece, I wouldn’t be the musician/person I am today without these hardships. I also have my teachers Ms. Kuan and Mr. Beggs to thank for teaching me how to overcome tasks that seemed impossible. If there is any advice I can give to the younger students, it’s to understand that all of the practice and dedication that you put into your music is what teaches you to become the best person you can be. The lessons I’ve learned from music like time management, commitment/consistency, and having patience, are ones that have helped me become the determined person that I am today. Finally, just remember to enjoy yourself and play from the heart. Being a musician isn’t about how fast you can play the notes on the page, but that you play with your heart and soul. Next year I will be attending The University of New Hampshire with a major in Marine Biology. Although I will not be majoring in music, I will be sure to keep up with my guitar practicing and will definitely be joining as many clubs/bands as I can. Once again I would like to thank all of my teachers and the staff at EKS for helping me become the person I am today and shaping who I will be tomorrow.
