Hi, my name is Winnie Dong and I’m part of the graduating class of 2026 at Braintree High. I’ve been playing piano for about 10 years, starting at EKS about 6 years ago. Music has been a big part of my life since I was 8 years old, playing piano outside of school and flute in the school band. Ms. Kuan has taught me so much over the last 6 years, not only in piano but time management and persistence as well. Good results come from hard work and pushing through the challenges. I’ve learned many classical pieces in my time but I love being able to play pieces that I enjoy. Sometimes I’ll practice as a fun and productive way to give myself a mental break from school work. It brings me joy each time I successfully play a piece, especially one that I like.
In September, I will be heading to Umass Amherst majoring in biology on the pre-med track. Although I won’t be studying music, I hope that I’ll still be able to use the skills I’ve learned and practice on my own time. I’m grateful for all my music teachers who have taught me so much throughout my life. I’m excited to embark on this next chapter of my life, but music will always stay close to my heart.
