Ellyses Kuan
Music Director, Performer and Recording Artist
Ms. Ellyses Kuan, a native of Hong Kong, began her musical journey at the age of three, developing a deep passion for the piano that has shaped her life and career. In addition to receiving the prestigious Steinway & Sons Top Teacher Awards in 2017 and 2018, she was honored as the Teacher of the Year 2019-2020 by the Massachusetts Music Teacher Association (MMTA).
After completing her undergraduate studies at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Ellyses was awarded a full scholarship to pursue her Master’s Degree in Piano Performance at the Eastman School of Music, where she studied under Barry Snyder. She was selected to represent Hong Kong at the International Kirishima Music Festival in Japan and has been mentored by esteemed teachers such as Dr. Siu-Wan Chair Fang and Paul Odette. Ellyses has also benefited from masterclasses with distinguished artists including John Perry, Alan Chow, Dang Thai Son, Malcolm Bilson, and Jane McGrath.
Ellyses is not only an enthusiastic chamber musician but also an accomplished soloist, with a particular passion for Baroque and Classical Performance Practices. She has performed across the globe, including in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Austria, Japan, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, captivating audiences with her authentic musical interpretations. Her commitment to excellence has led her to perform at prestigious venues such as the Imperial Hall at Schloss Esterházy in Austria.
In addition to her performance career, Ellyses is the co-founder of Duo Amie, a cello and piano duo based in the Greater Boston area. Their performances and recordings can be found on major streaming platforms such as Apple Music, iTunes, Spotify, and YouTube. Through Duo Amie, Ellyses continues to bring the beauty of classical music to a wider audience.
Beyond her work as a performer, Ellyses is dedicated to building a vibrant musical community. She organizes and hosts house concerts at the Alida House Concert Series in the South Shore area, aiming to promote performing arts awareness and support local young musicians. She has also established a music scholarship fund at her school to enhance access to quality music education in the area.
Ellyses’s contributions to the music community extend to her leadership role as the President of the Massachusetts Music Teacher Association from 2018 to 2020. In 2014, she was invited to speak at the Boston GuitarFest Roundtable Panel on Entrepreneurship and Making a Career in Music Work, and her music school was featured in the Boston Globe the same year.
