At EKS Music School, we are excited to launch our new curriculum theme for the year: “Once Upon a Tale: Musical Stories.” This theme explores the powerful connection between music and storytelling, allowing students to engage deeply with compositions inspired by timeless tales from around the world.
For the months of October and November, we’ll be focusing on one of the most beloved musical stories of all time: The Nutcracker by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Based on the story by E.T.A. Hoffmann, The Nutcracker transports us to a magical world filled with adventure, dancing, and the unforgettable music of Tchaikovsky. Students will have the opportunity to explore this enchanting tale through a variety of activities, listening assignments, and engaging discussions.
To make this journey even more exciting, we have created a dedicated Nutcracker Curriculum Webpage on our school website. This webpage is packed with resources for students and parents alike. You’ll find:
- Listening Assignments: Carefully curated selections from The Nutcracker to help students connect with the music.
- Discussion: During lesson, questions and prompts to guide students through each piece, encouraging them to think critically about the music and its narrative.
- Fun Activities: From coloring pages to crossword puzzles, these activities are designed to enhance students’ learning while adding an element of fun.
- Performance Opportunities: Pieces from The Nutcracker that students can learn and perform, either as part of a class or for your winter recital performance piece!
We invite students and families to explore the webpage and immerse themselves in the magical world of The Nutcracker. This is not just about learning the notes—it’s about experiencing the story behind the music and gaining a deeper appreciation for one of classical music’s greatest works.
Visit our Nutcracker webpage and explore! We hope The Nutcracker inspires students to discover the joy of music and storytelling combined.
